Jake focuses on resolving intellectual property disputes. He leverages an engineering background and significant pro-bono experience to provide practical, strategic counsel to his clients. His practice combines patent prosecution and intellectual property litigation support, bringing a 360-degree perspective to protecting and enforcing client assets and mitigating risk. Jake also supports clients in copyright, trademark, and contract matters.
Jake has experience with utility, design, and provisional patent applications. He also conducts prior art searches, office action responses, and intellectual property due diligence, in addition to providing business litigation and intellectual property litigation support. As a former engineer, Jake is able to understand complex technologies in fields as diverse as mechanical devices, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer architecture, and cybersecurity.
Before attending law school, Jake worked for Northrop Grumman in conjunction with Hill Air Force Base, maintaining and supporting the Minuteman III missile system. He then attended the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, where he graduated summa cum laude. While completing his degree, Jake became involved with a pro-bono Intellectual Property Clinic. At the clinic, Jake assisted pro-bono clients with protecting their IP assets by filing trademark and patent applications, registering copyrights, and performing IP due diligence.
His time in Tucson also saw Jake working as a market research analyst for Tech Launch Arizona, where he forecasted the practical marketability, strengths, and potential pitfalls of new products and technologies ranging from agriculture to optics to renewable energy. His time with Tech Launch Arizona broadened his experiential skillset to think about both the law and the practical business considerations each client faces – allowing him to better see the “bigger picture” in the work that he does.
As a Colorado native, Jake enjoys spending time in the mountains with his wife and son, hiking and camping.
