Ray's practice focuses primarily on patent drafting and prosecution. He has prosecuted and managed patent portfolios for major Silicon Valley companies and many other high-tech companies. Ray has helped clients to develop worldwide patent portfolio strategies. He has also represented clients before the USPTO in post-grant proceedings, including reexamination, reissue, and inter partes review.
Ray’s patent prosecution experience spans a wide spectrum of technologies, including 5G telecommunication devices and networks, artificial intelligence, LiDAR, drones, virtualization, mobile applications, data searching and aggregation, natural language processing, network gaming, integrated circuits, power electronics, radio frequency devices, VoIP systems, sensors, Internet applications, semiconductor devices and manufacturing processes, solar power, medical and mechanical devices, and LED materials and circuits.
Ray has written patent opinions, performed freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses, and negotiated patent transfer and licensing agreements for technology transfers. Ray also has extensive experience in patent litigation, including handling technical discovery, drafting briefs, and conducting pre-suit infringement and validity analysis.
Ray’s patent work is informed by twelve years of engineering experience that preceded his law career. He spent six years as an IC design engineer at Intel in Silicon Valley. Prior to that, he worked as a failure analysis engineer at Infineon and as a materials engineer at Hewlett Packard.
