Kristian is a registered US patent attorney who concentrates his practice on the management, preparation, and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications. Kristian provides strategic patent counselling on a global scale by leveraging his experience working as a registered US patent attorney in both the US and Germany. Kristian’s experience working with patent counsel in jurisdictions around the globe allows him to understand and better manage the complexities that arise while working across different standards, procedures, and expectations of various international patent offices.

Kristian’s engineering mindset, fused with his understanding of the nuances of intellectual property (IP) law, allows him to rapidly understand innovations in a variety of technology industries including artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning and to advise clients on IP protection strategies. In addition to AI and machine learning, Kristian has significant experience prosecuting both utility and design patents in various other leading-edge technologies, including: semiconductor devices; telecommunication systems; software; mechanical devices; optical systems; and energy systems—with a special focus on green and smart technology.

Because of his ability to look at complex situations, identify and prioritize issues, and identify potential solutions, clients also turn to Kristian for IP portfolio management, patentability searches, trademark prosecution, and IP litigation support. When it comes to IP litigation support, Kristian provides expertise during all stages of litigation, including: prior art assessments; patentability analyses; patent invalidity analyses; and patent infringement or non-infringement analyses.

Prior to law school, Kristian worked at L-3 Communications—now L3 Harris—designing and verifying wireless communication systems and at Simtek Corp. verifying nvSRAM semiconductor chips.

Kristian is a true believer in giving back to his community. He volunteers at his alma mater—the University of Utah—mentoring undergraduate engineering students and participating in general undergraduate programs to assist undergraduate students.  Kristian is also involved with local youth organizations in the Salt Lake Valley to help the youth experience adventures and get outdoors.
