Ken Han is a registered patent attorney who counsels clients on developing, protecting, and leveraging intellectual property across a wide range of advanced and emerging technologies. Ken brings together technical depth across life sciences and computing, combined with practical business experience, to deliver intellectual property strategies that support innovation, reduce risk, and advance long-term commercial goals.

His practice includes patent drafting and prosecution, strategic portfolio management, and counseling clients on the licensing, commercialization, and protection of intellectual property assets. He also advises clients on enforcement and dispute-related matters, providing guidance that aligns intellectual property strategy with broader business objectives and risk management considerations.

A significant focus of Ken's practice is advising startup and emerging technology companies throughout their growth lifecycle. He partners with founders, management teams, and investors to develop and execute intellectual property strategies that support company formation, fundraising, strategic partnerships, product commercialization, mergers and acquisitions, and other significant business transactions.

Ken works with clients to translate complex, multidisciplinary technologies into clear, enforceable patent protection. He focuses on technologies that combine life sciences and computation, drawing on his background in both biological and software-based systems. Many modern products, especially in medical devices and biotechnology, rely on the integration of software, data processing, and connectivity alongside physical components. He ensures that these elements are captured together so that patent protection reflects how products function in practice and where their commercial value lies. He approaches portfolio development with a broader analytical lens, evaluating how individual filings support overall portfolio strength, freedom to operate, and long-term business strategy.

He applies this cross-disciplinary perspective to structure patent protection for innovations in medical devices, biotechnology, bioinformatics, and healthcare technologies, as well as artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud-based systems, semiconductors, and microelectronics. His work often centers on technologies where scientific and computational elements operate together, particularly in systems that integrate hardware, software, and data. He aligns patent strategies with how these technologies function in practice, ensuring that protection reflects both the technical architecture and the commercial drivers underlying the innovation.

Ken’s experience also extends across a broad range of industries, including cybersecurity, data analytics, materials technologies, aerospace and defense systems, autonomous and connected vehicle technologies, telecommunications, renewable energy, digital media, consumer electronics, and financial services platforms. This range enables him to support clients whose innovations span multiple technical domains and require coordinated intellectual property strategies across evolving technologies and markets.

Earlier in his career, Ken worked in-house with technology-focused organizations, including IBM and its infrastructure services spinoff, Kyndryl. In those roles, he led the management and strategic direction of large patent portfolios and partnered with engineering teams on patent application development. This experience informs his practical approach to client counseling, with a focus on aligning intellectual property strategy with product development timelines, operational priorities, and long-term commercialization goals.

Ken also has significant international experience from his time as counsel for a multinational company based in South Korea, where he supported cross-border business and intellectual property matters involving affiliates in Japan and other global markets. His work included participating in joint ventures and other complex commercial transactions, advising on dispute-related issues, and working with technical teams to assess patent risk and portfolio positioning. This experience enables him to advise clients on intellectual property strategy across multiple jurisdictions and business environments, including for technologies that combine scientific and software-driven elements.
