Former Vivint Smart Home Deputy General Counsel Jim Lundberg Re-Joins Intellectual Property Firm Maschoff Brennan

Park City • June 17th, 2025

Maschoff Brennan is pleased to welcome Jim Lundberg back to the firm. Jim rejoins the firm after almost 10 years as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Vivint Smart Home. Jim brings with him a wealth of in-house experience and industry awareness, enhancing Maschoff Brennan’s reputation for providing clients with both business and legal insight.

While at Vivint, Jim played a pivotal role in the company’s legal department, focusing on intellectual property and complex litigation, corporate transactions, coordinating with and managing outside counsel, and compliance with laws and regulations. Jim held similar positions at Novell and Vivint Solar (now SunRun). He is returning to Maschoff Brennan with a sharpened understanding of corporate decision-making, a deep appreciation for the multitude of pressures faced by general counsel for private and publicly-traded companies, and a practical, business-oriented approach to legal problem-solving. His experience in-house translates directly into stronger, more strategic counsel for firm clients that operate in dynamic and highly regulated industries.

In addition to his corporate counsel positions, Jim also has worked in private practice at a large national firm and served as law clerk to a federal district judge. Jim is proficient in Mandarin, which will be of assistance to Maschoff Brennan’s domestic and international clients.

“We have worked closely with Jim for years, both as a partner and client. He has exceptional judgment. We are thrilled to welcome Jim back to the firm,” said Sterling Brennan. “Jim’s deep understanding of the legal and business challenges our clients encounter today – honed by his years of firsthand experience at the executive level – makes him an invaluable asset to our litigation team and to our clients.”

Jim originally joined Maschoff Brennan as a shareholder in 2013. He built a robust litigation practice specializing in intellectual property and international and national regulatory law, particularly with the SEC and other regulatory requirements of publicly traded companies.

“I’m excited to return to Maschoff Brennan. It is a firm that has always stood for legal excellence and client commitment.” said Jim. “The experience I gained as Deputy General Counsel has given me a broader perspective on what clients need from their outside counsel, and I look forward to bringing that insight back to the firm.”
