Registered Patent Attorney Associate
Michael’s practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications for inventions in the electrical, computer and mechanical arts. His educational background and professional experience as an engineer enable him to effectively understand various technologies and aid his clients in procuring, protecting, and asserting their patent portfolios. Beyond his patent work, he provides clients with support in copyright and licensing matters.
Before practicing law, Michael worked for four years at Hill Air Force Base as an Electronics Test and Software Development Engineer where he developed user interfaces for pilots on the A-10 jet, created test procedures and tested new software for the A-10 technical requirements, and oversaw a team of 10 test and development engineers.
Michael now applies the strong analytical and creative problem solving skills that he honed while at HAFB to helping his clients protect their innovations and achieve their long-term goals. In addition, his extensive engineering background allows Michael to communicate with clients effectively in their industry languages, rapidly grasp the core of their creative ideas, and explore the broadest possible protection for their new technologies.
Prior to joining Maschoff Brennan, Michael was a Senior License Processor at the Brigham Young University Copyright Licensing Office. He received his J.D. from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU, and his Masters of Engineering and Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering from Utah State University.
When not at work Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, and takes part in a wide variety of sports including golf, basketball, and pickleball.
