John T. Gadd

Registered Patent Attorney Shareholder

John’s practice emphasizes client counseling, inter partes reviews, ex parte reexaminations, patent-related opinion work, patent prosecution, and trademark prosecution. In his practice, John has provided strategic direction in various post-grant matters, challenging and defending patents, most commonly in coordination with litigation counsel amidst co-pending disputes.

With his background as a software developer, John also manages the software patent portfolios of several high-tech clients. He also regularly advises on defensive tactics to address competitor IP. In this regard, John specializes in post-grant matters, representing both patent owners and challengers.

John is a former non-equity shareholder of a major IP law firm in Salt Lake City. During law school, John served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Kenneth F. Ripple of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and as the Publication Manager of the Ave Maria Law Review. Prior to law school, he designed and developed custom backend software systems for several major corporations.

John loves a good adventure. He enjoys hiking, running, and cycling. Some of his recent feats include a 75-mile hike on the Great Western Trail, finishing the 1-day, 206-mile LoToJa bike ride, jogging (because his speed doesn’t really qualify as running) several marathons around Utah, and a ~2,500 mile road trip across America. John is happily married and a father of six kids who keep him humble and grounded.
